Pottery Class
Service Description
Come learn how to throw or improve upon what you already know. There are many craft centers that offer “pottery” classes in the area but are more geared towards social gatherings rather than learning the skill to create something. I have a much greater desire to help someone grow as a potter and have been teaching wheel throwing for just shy of a decade. Outside of throwing, I will also open up the door to do atmospheric firings (soda and wood). We can also discuss raku firings for more decorative work and electric firings for low fire instant gratification. I want you to be immersed in the full experience of what it means to be a potter instead of loading a kiln and forgetting about it. I teach standing up which is significantly easier to do AND does not give you back problems like sitting down does. I have two comfy chairs to take a break in every 20 minutes or so because standing for a long time is also not great. Lessons can be anywhere from 1.5 hours to 3 hours in length. We can also play it by ear as we create. An hour is too short of time to learn or make anything. Between figuring out what we want to accomplish to cleaning the wheel at the end of the day that leaves no time. I can have a maximum of 3 people but really recommend 1. What I have found over the last decade of teaching is that 1 on 1 lessons help you improve significantly faster. There is a tendency to compete with whoever else is in the room (regardless of how well you know them) and it leads to much more frustration. Price list: 1 person: $65.00/hr 2 person: $85.00hr 3 person: $100.00hr Clay is included up to a certain point. Firing fees are not included Depending on the firing style, it can take months to have a finished piece return to the studio. I am happy to fire your work for you but I would prefer you were there so you can experience at least a little of what it takes to fire a kiln. This also promotes a higher appreciation of what we are doing because making is only half of the piece.
