Like many who love pottery, I became infatuation with the idea of creating sculpture that could be interacted with, held, used and loved. Handmade pottery is not only beautiful, but imbues preciousness into every moment it is used. In a highly manufactured world, wheel throwing is an ancient technique that is still in practice because of it's ability to create functionally practical vessels while still retaining an element of human touch.
This is also a place to learn how to create objects yourself through private or two person lessons.

Welcome to Bell Hill Pottery
All of my work is fired in soda and wood kilns located in Kent, CT. A wood firing is a grueling thirty-eight hour firing that requires stoking the kiln every five minutes until you reach peak temperature (2384 degrees Fahrenheit). The soda kiln firing, while as long, is not as laborious. At peak temperature, I walk around the kiln spraying in sodium bicarbonate for two and a half hours. Both of these firing methods are considered atmospheric firings and require extra preparation before entering the kiln.
